Trouble in the Park

During the many hours of shooting in Meridian Hill Park in Columbia Heights this past weekend, the crew came to expect constant questions from people — including cops — about what they are doing and if they are permitted to be shooting. Luckily, they can always flash their permit so diligently obtained by producer David Hande.

One cop, after verifying the permit, decided to hang out and watch some of the filming. He was cool, just hanging out with the crew and watching playbacks on the monitor. As it got close to the time when the permit would expire, the cop saw that the crew was beginning to pack up and left the park.

Just as the crew was getting ready to leave, another cop approached and asked to see a permit. The crew had only half a permit (the other half was with executive producer Adrian Walker) but tried to explain that another cop — “Gary,” they called him — had been hanging out with them almost all day. The second cop was very skeptical, naturally, and informed the crew that there are tons of “Gary”s on the force. He also thought the crew packing up meant they were trying to make a run for it when they saw him approaching. The crew frantically made a call to Adrian, but finally, the cop got in touch with “Gary” (the first cop) and all was well.

Carry on, AOP crew!
